You have to grab the ball by moving your player right or left. Once you can catch the ball, you are required to pass it to the next player in the field. Throwing the ball with an extra speed is prohibited, and so, you have to be careful about this.

You can watch the speed of the ball into power bar which is located at the bottom of the game screen. You should wait till the ball reaches the green zone.
